  • Interstate 89 (I-89): One of the state’s most important routes. It connects the southern border with New Hampshire, passes through Montpelier (capital) and Burlington, then continues north to the Canadian border. 

  • Interstate 91 (I-91): Runs the full length of the state from south (Massachusetts border) to the north (Canada), mainly along the eastern side near the Connecticut River. 

  • Auxiliary Interstate: Interstate 189 (I-189) is a short spur in Chittenden County, connecting I-89 to Burlington/South Burlington area. 

  • State highways also connect many smaller towns, rural areas, mountain regions. Examples include VT-15 which connects Winooski, Morrisville, Danville, etc.

      _    Champlain Valley Fair (Essex Junction) — late August. Fair with livestock, rides, concerts, local food and exhibitions. 

  • Vermont Sheep & Wool Festival (Tunbridge) — celebrates local fiber arts, sheep, wool crafts. 

  • Stowe Foliage Arts Festival (Stowe) — autumn arts festival timed with fall leaf season. 

  • Gilfeather Turnip Festival in Wardsboro — celebrates the Gilfeather turnip (vegetable with local tradition). 

  • Pumpkin Chuckin’ Festival (Stowe) — teams launch pumpkins (or contraptions) as part of seasonal festival. 

  • Various harvest, apple/cider-making, cheese/farm festivals, arts & crafts fairs.

            Humid continental.

  • Winters are cold, especially in higher elevation and the “Northeast Kingdom” region; heavy snow is common. 

  • Summers are warm, but not excessively hot in most areas; nights can be cool. 

  • Annual precipitation moderate; snowfall abundant in winter in mountains and valleys; elevation plays big role. 

  • Fall foliage is a major seasonal draw: vivid autumn leaves, cooler nights starting in September.
