• I-49: Runs north–south, connecting Lafayette and Shreveport (and further)
• I-20: In the northern part, connecting Shreveport east-west toward Mississippi and Texas
• I-55: Runs north–south in eastern Louisiana (toward Mississippi)
• I-59: Links New Orleans area toward the northeast (Mississippi, Alabama)

• Mardi Gras (New Orleans & southern Louisiana) — Probably the most legendary festival. The Carnival season starts January 6 (Epiphany) and culminates in parades culminating in “Fat Tuesday.”
  • Organized by krewes (social clubs) who host parades, balls, and other events.
  • Parades intensify in the last week before Mardi Gras.
• Jazz & Heritage Festival (New Orleans) — Celebrates music (especially jazz), culture, food, and heritage (African, Caribbean, Latin, blues, etc.).
• Essence Festival — A large music, culture, and empowerment festival in New Orleans.
• French Quarter Festival — Held in New Orleans, with local music and cuisine.
• Crawfish Festivals, Gumbo Cook-offs, Jambalaya Festivals in various parishes (e.g. Gonzales is known as “Jambalaya Capital of the World” and hosts an annual Jambalaya Festival)
• Bayou festivals, Swamp tours & heritage events, Creole / Cajun music festivals (e.g. along the Acadiana region)

Louisiana Culture Festival — Newer festival celebrating Louisiana’s cultural diversity, cuisine, music. in February

  Humid subtropical, becoming warmer with intense rainfall events and flooding risks.
