Interstate 5 (I‑5): Runs the full length of California north‑south from the Mexican border at San Diego up to the Oregon line. It connects major cities like San Diego, Los Angeles, Sacramento, and Redding. 

U.S. Route 101 (US 101): Runs largely along the coast; links Los Angeles, the Central Coast, the San Francisco Bay Area, the Redwood Empire, etc. 

Interstate 405 (I‑405): Auxiliary interstate in Southern California; bypass/alternative to parts of I‑5 around Los Angeles and connects many suburbs and airports. 

Interstate 205 (I‑205): Connects I‑580 to I‑5 near Tracy. Important for traffic to the Bay Area and access to inland areas. 

State Route 99 (SR‑99): Runs north‑south through the Central Valley; important route through agriculture zones and connecting smaller cities.

Along the coast: generally mild, Mediterranean‑style climate — wet winters, dry summers; coastal fog is common especially in places like San Francisco.

The Central Valley: hotter summers, cooler winters; can get quite hot in summer.

Desert regions in Southern California (e.g. inland areas) are very hot, low humidity, with large diurnal temperature swings (hot daytime, much cooler nights).

Mountain regions (Sierra Nevada, etc.) have colder winters, snow; elevation causes big differences.
